Locally, Preah Sihanouk province is referred to as Kampong Som and has been named after King Norodom Sihanouk since gaining independence from France in 1953. One of Asia's top coastal locations is Kampong Som province, which is situated 230 kilometers southwest of the capital, Phnom Penh.
In addition to its amazing beaches, the province is known for its amazing seafood, water sports, and nearby islands. Independence Beach, Deum Chrey Beach, Victory Beach, Sokha Beach, Serendipity Beach, Ochheuteal Beach, Samdech Hun Sen Beach, Hawaii Beach, Ream Beach, and Otres Beach are some of the well-known beaches that trace the city's north-south contour.
Since the majority of the natural beauty in and around Kampong Som (Sihanoukville province) is still mostly untouched, island hopping, snorkeling, and scuba diving are also very popular activities. At night, visitors can explore and savor the variety of cuisines offered by the pubs and restaurants dotted around the town and along the beaches.
Koh Tang
It is a long way from Preah Sihanouk province's main coastline. To get there, you have to spend the night on board. There are a lot of intriguing diving locations on the island that are rarely visited. There is a military station on this island, therefore visitors can anticipate being escorted by military personnel.
Koh Russei
Described as a crescent with a gilded edge resting on green or blue water, Koh Russei, also known as Bamboo Island, is a genuine gem of a beach with beautiful pink or ochre sand and an enigmatic vegetation.
It is an island of tenderness and desire with a hint of mystery; its virgin, private, and intimate qualities make it on par with some of the most exclusive locations on earth. This is the location for people who enjoy the water and the sun. The beautiful scenes of the sun setting into the ocean may be seen here in all its beauty.
Koh Puos
Located one kilometer from the Lomhè Kay beach is the uninhabited and peaceful island of Koh Puos. It is recommended that tourists visit this island in groups and pack their own food and beverages.
Koh Rong Sanlem
It is located to the south of Koh Rong and is somewhat smaller. The north seashore, which faces Koh Rong, and the east coast, which has a wide heart-shaped bay with some shellfish aquaculture, both have lovely beaches.
Koh Rong
West of the provincial coast is where it is located. It provides the wonderful 5-kilometer stretch of beach on its southwest. The island is home to freshwater resources and a thriving fishing community that provides basic necessities including fish, crab, and fresh water.
Islands
About 34 islands are under the Preah Sihanouk Province's authority. The bigger islands of Koh Rong and Koh Rong Samloem to the west, Koh Thmei and Koh Ses within Ream National Park, and other smaller islands located both offshore and near shore that extend as far north as the northern edge of Kampong Som Bay are among them. There are little beaches on many of the islands, and some have been found to be suitable for snorkeling. Koh Khteah, Koh Chraloh, Koh Ta Kiev, and Koh Chraloh are among them. The diving conditions on the islands of Koh Tang, Koh Prins, and Poulo Wai are favorable. Regular boat journeys provide access to the majority of islands.
Kbal Chhay Waterfall
Visitors can get a glimpse of heaven at the Kbal Chhay Waterfall, which is located on National Road 4 about 16 kilometers from downtown Sihanoukville. Found in 1960, the 14-meter-tall waterfalls were transformed into a freshwater supply for Sihanoukville in 1998. It has undoubtedly become a favorite among both domestic and international tourists.
Hawaii Beach
Hawaii Beach, which has long been very popular, is dotted with cafés and restaurants with thatched roofs.
Lomherkay Beach
"Hawaii Beach, King's Beach, South Channel Beach" are other names for Lomherkay Beach. While not quite as crowded as Ochheuteal, Lomherkay Beach is equally lined with chairs and umbrellas as the other big beaches, as well as little beach shack taverns and seafood eateries. The number of visitors to Lomherkay Beach is slightly lower than those of Ochheuteal and Serendipity beaches. The tiny rod at the southern end leads to the beach.
Victory Beach
Victory Beach is extremely long—more than two kilometers—but it is split in half by a tiny hill and a rocky point. Because it is a little calmer and more laid-back than Ochheuteal Beach and has a few food beach bars and restaurants directly on the sand, the portion of Victory Beach that is home to the Vietnam-Cambodia Monument (Victory Monument) is well-liked. One of the best places to watch sunsets is Victory Beach.
Sokha Beach
For the sake of its hotel guests, Sokha Beach Resort occupies and separates Sokha Beach. A tiny portion of this beach is still accessible to the general public, nevertheless. For a nominal charge, tourists can spend a day on the secluded, packed shoreline. The cost also covers the usage of the facilities and pools at Sokha Resort.
Independence Beach
Named for the nearby seven-story Independence Hotel, Independence Beach is a white sand beach. Independence Beach is the ideal spot to unwind because it is serene and quiet.
Serendipity Beach
Serendipity Beach is a popular beach with affordable guesthouses, restaurants, shops, and pubs. This section of beach is a favorite among international visitors and never sleeps.
Otres Beach
The beach just south of Ochheuteal is called Otres Beach, and it is similar to Ochheuteal in many ways. Otres Beach is easily accessible by the relatively recent road that crosses the hill from Ochheuteal (via Queen Hill Resort). Otres Beach is more remote and generally less developed than Sihanoukville's other popular tourist beaches. A few restaurants and beach bars with thatch roofs are grouped near the end of the beach, and there are grass umbrellas strewn all over the place.
Ochheuteal Beach
The busiest beach in Sihanoukville is Ochheuteal Beach, which is well-liked by both weekend visitors and tourists. From one end of Ochheuteal to the other, the sand is lined with beach bars and seafood shacks with thatch roofs. Adjacent to it is "Serendipity beach," which is particularly well-liked by low-budget tourists.
Ream National Park
Due to its national, scientific, educational, and recreational significance, Ream National Park was designated a protected area by royal decree in 1993. It is located around eighteen kilometers to the east of Sihanoukville. To experience this amazing area, the national park staff offers guided boat and walking tours. You can witness monkeys, dolphins, deer, wild pigs, and a wide variety of birds on these 21,000 hectares. Coral reefs, beaches, islands, estuaries, and jungles can all be found in this park. Contact the national park headquarters, located across from Korng Kang Airport, for additional information.
Koh Sang Saa
Two immaculate islands coexist in the unspoiled Koh Rong Archipelago in Cambodia. Locally, they are referred to as Song Saa, which means "The Sweethearts" in Khmer. As the name suggests, Song Saa Island is a sensual place. Consider intimacy. Imagine being opulent. But most importantly, consider harmony with all the natural features that contribute to this location's uniqueness.
